SharePoint Enterprise 2013 SP1 SQL Server Install
SQL Server setup
In the previous post, we installed the SharePoint 2013 Prerequisites. In this post, we will configure the SQL server needed for SharePoint.
The SQL Server that SharePoint will connect to is a SQL box based on a Server 2008R2 Template and SQL Server 2012. In this case, all I had to do was select a SQL server to be created and I just needed to name it. I called my SQL server: SP8SQL08. I will not go into details of how to create this server as it’s been automatically created for me.
1. Load up Active Directory users and tools on your domain controller. In this case I created the AD user account under:cld.lab.win/CLD/CloudUsers/WinHostServices
2. I called the user account SPDB,
3. Add SPDB as local admin on SP8SQL.cld.lab.win. Note, you cannot login to the DB server with my default account. I had to login to the server with the Administrator account.
After login as local admin, I need to add my user account and the SPDB account.
4. I went to the SP8SQL server, Security, Logins,
Note: After clicking search, you will be prompted for the AD account, in this case, I used the same Account I am trying to add to logins,
You have to change the options for object types (selected all), and set locations to the entire directory.
To search for my username and the SPDB account I used: CLD\Jeffrey.Rikala; CLD\SPDB;
Selected OK after.
Selected Server Roles after, and selected DBCreator. Note: The SharePoint install failed, and I noticed I have to also put my account as SysAdmin in order for the install to work.
Apply the same steps for CLD\SPDB.
Testing the connection
It’s always a good idea to ensure your sql box and Sharepoint server can communicate before
proceeding.
1. Tested logging into SP8SQL, as Jeffrey Rikala (Jeffrey.Rikala@CLD.LAB.WIN) to ensure I can see databases/create databases.
I opened a command prompt to test a ping from SPENT to SP8SQL and was successful:
